Cyclone Idai Recovery and Reconstruction
The project builds on a WWF post Cyclone Idai rescue and relief project that responded to Government’s appeal for support. Its goal is to increase long term resilience of community livelihoods and the diverse ecosystems that support them in the Cyclone Idai affected districts of Chimanimani and Chipinge.
The project objectives are to:
The project will be implemented in the following phases:
Phase 1: Involving the Design of green recovery and reconstruction interventions. Its key activities are to:
a. Engage key stakeholders on the importance of mainstreaming environmental and climate change concerns into post Cyclone Idai recovery and reconstruction interventions using Rapid Environmental Assessment (REA) and Scenario Planning/Ecological Futures Thinking approaches; and
b. Identify key environmental concerns and design green recovery and reconstruction interventions;
Phase 2: involving the implementation of targeted interventions formulated in phase 1.
- Galvanize national policy discourse and action to minimize impacts of similar future disasters through informed environment/climate proofing; and
- Support the design and implementation of green recovery and reconstruction interventions in the target districts.
